The ten vets will be donning their leathers and getting on their motorcycles to complete the CPD trip in a week. Starting in Liverpool on Monday 26 July, they will visit each vet school in the country, ending up in Glasgow on Saturday 31 July. The vets will deliver broad based Equine CPD at each vet school. Topics will include: Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia and Wound Care. There is no charge for delegates to attend but they are being asked to take along a donation for the SPANA Disabled Riding Centre, in Bamako, the capital of Mali in West Africa and the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) Trust.
SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) is an animal welfare charity based in London, which works widely in Saharan Africa to improve the life of working horses and donkeys. It set up the Disabled Riding Centre in Bamako to give children with mental and physical disabilities the chance to ride, socialise and play. The children also receive professional physiotherapy to help improve their movement and muscular fitness. Disabled children in Mali are often rejected by their parents and receive no schooling, love or attention. The SPANA project enables these children to have some moments of enjoyment and love in their lives.
Rachel Fuller, Product Manager at Dechra, says: “This is a great opportunity for us to support a group of equine vets who are aiming to deliver quality equine CPD and helping such a worthwhile cause at the same time.”
