Seborrhoeic dermatitis

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is characterised by excess scale, abnormal sebum production and microbial overgrowth. There are two different “types” of seborrhoeic dermatitis which relates to whether sebum production is abnormally high or low. The two types are dry (sicca) and greasy (oleosa). Regardless of type there is excess keratin production.

Both types of seborrhoeic dermatitis have one other common feature - microbial overgrowth with Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and/or Malassezia pachydermatis.
