Flexible products the answer to practice during COVID-19 pandemic

Leading animal health specialist Dechra Veterinary Products is throwing its weight behind veterinary professionals across the country to help them adapt their day-to-day practice during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The company says it is meeting market demand as vets tailor the delivery of vital patient care during the pandemic.

Dechra Country Manager for the UK and ROI Roddy Webster said: “We know this is a challenging time for veterinary professionals and Dechra is working hard to maintain high levels of service.

“We have put in a lot of effort to ensure continuity of supply with essential staff able to work in the Dechra production and warehouse facilities, where the appropriate social distancing and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to. We are still providing support to our customers through our dedicated field representatives and technical services teams that are working from home.”

Dechra’s product range for equine, companion and food-producing animals offers flexible and convenient solutions for veterinary professionals with a variety of vial sizes and the length of broached shelf life they offer.

For companion animals, its popular anaesthetic Anesketin® (Ketamine 100 mg/ml) is available in a unique 5 ml vial size to reduce wastage and the inconvenience associated with witnessed disposal of out-of-date controlled drugs, along with 10 ml and 50 ml vials.

The titratable analgesic Comfortan® (Methadone hydrochloride 10 mg/ml) is also available in smaller vial sizes whilst Prevomax® (Maropitant 10 mg/ml) is in a convenient 20ml bottle that doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge and has a 56-day broached shelf life.

Its equine range includes Nerfasin® (Xylazine 100 mg and 20 mg/ml), the only Xylazine on market with a premedication licence, tranquiliser Tranquinervin® (Acepromazine 10 mg/ml) which has a 56-day broached shelf life and its oral antibiotic Equibactin® (Trimethoprim/Sulfadiazine paste) that is sold in a unique pack size to treat animals up to 600kg and has a two-month broached shelf life.

Rapidexon® (Dexamethasone 2 mg/ml), which is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory or allergic conditions in horses, cattle, pigs, dogs and cats, comes in a 50 ml vial, making it an ideal choice for mixed practices.

Roddy added: “Our key priority has always been to provide a range of treatments across our therapy areas that are practical and economical. That is now more important than ever as practices face a changing commercial landscape and they look to better utilise their resources.

“Our team is working closely with veterinary professionals and we pledge to do whatever we can to ensure they can deliver excellent patient care as they navigate this period of uncertainty.”
