Dogs weighing above 50 kg will require more than one vial of Cosacthen
Cosacthen should be stored in a refrigerator, in the outer carton until it is used. This is because tetracosactide is a peptide which will degrade if exposed to increased temperature or light.
The vials are also designed for single use only: any remaining product after first use must be discarded. Cosacthen contains no antimicrobial ingredients, therefore when the stopper is broached, Cosacthen could become contaminated with microorganisms.
Equally, tetracosactide degrades in the presence of oxygen. The vial’s headspace is filled with nitrogen gas and when the stopper is broached, oxygen will enter the vial, degrading the active ingredient.
