New equine analgesic Sympagesic® from Dechra

23 October 2020

A new treatment for painful equine conditions including colic has been unveiled by Dechra Veterinary Products.

Sympagesic® is the latest addition to Dechra’s analgesia range and is indicated for the treatment of spasmodic colic and pain associated with underlying disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital system.

It is recommended as part of first line treatment for colic in horses1 and facilitates and increases the quality of rectal examination in horses with the condition2.

Sympagesic has analgesic, antipyretic and spasmolytic effects with active ingredients metamizole sodium monohydrate and hyoscine butylbromide. It is administered via slow intravenous injection with a prescribed dose of 4 to 5 ml per 100 kg.

Dechra Brand Manager Emma Jennings said: “Colic in particular is a common and distressing occurrence for horses and their owners and Sympagesic is a highly effective equine analgesia that provides fast acting pain relief.

“It joins our range of analgesia solutions products to give equine vets comprehensive options for treating the conditions they are presented with in their day-to-day practice.”

Sympagesic can also be used as an analgesic and spasmolytic for cattle, pigs and dogs and as a supportive therapy for acute diarrhoea and gastroenteritis in these animals.

It is available now in a 100 ml vial. For more information go to www.dechra.co.uk/products/dog/prescription/sympagesic.
